|27062021| Pilot whales are back | As baleias piloto estão de volta

Today we went all the way to the north of Faial island, almost to the Capelinhos Vulcano!


The first species that we saw was the sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus).

On this day the sperm whales seemed a bit evasive so we didn't stay for long with them.


Although, we saw an incredible group of pilot whales! The group had around 30 to 60 animals, with a few calves in the middle! They stayed around the boat and some of them approached us.


Also in the middle of the pilot whales were some risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus).

Hoje fomos para o lado norte da Ilha do Faial, quase que chegámos ao Vulcão dos Capelinhos!


A primeira espécie que avistámos foi o cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus).

Os cachalotes que estávamos a observar pareciam estar um pouci evasivos por isso não ficámos muito tempo.


Para além dos cachalotes, observámos um grupo incrível de baleias piloto! O grupo tinha entre 30 a 60 animais, incluindo algumas crias! Alguns dos indivíduos do grupo aproximaram-se bastante do grupo!


No meio do grupo das baleias piloto estavam alguns golfinhos de risso (Grampus griseus), algo que não é muito comum de se observar.
