|28-09-2019| Dolphin day
This morning we had bad weather conditions. However, people wanted to try and we succeeded. Thanks to the lookout, we could reach a big group of 150-200 Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) that were feeding in the North of Faial. We could see a small subgroup of them socializing too. Lots of seabirds like seagulls and Cory's shearwaters (Calonectris borealis) were taking advantage of the fish too. Also, a Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) was basking at the s

|26-09-2019| Sperm whale watching Azores and hundreds of dolphins South of Faial and Pico islands
On this day we saw a pod of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) in the South of the channel between Faial and Pico islands. In the morning the whales were in pairs and trios. Despite one breach far away, we saw the animals resting at the surface or shallow diving. In the afternoon, they had gone altogether in one single group of 6-7 individuals composed of adult females (one of them with a very particular white patch), juveniles and a small calf. During the day, we also saw

|25-09-2019 pm| Sperm whales and Atlantic spotted dolphins
This afternoon the Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) that were found by the lookout were still in the South of the islands but farther away. A pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) added a bit of movement to the expedition: the whales were shallow diving but the dolphins were friendly and jumping out of the water. When the Sperm whales shallow dive, they don't show the tail. But luckily we could see it as one of the animals dived deep. Thank you for joinin

|25-09-2019 am| Sperm whales and Common dolphins in the South of Pico
This morning, the lookout found Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) in the South of Pico island. On our way to the whales, we found a group of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). The pod was feeding and there were Seabirds like the Cory's Shearwaters (Calonectris borealis) around trying to catch some fish too. When we arrived at the whales, they were shallow diving. But luckily, a few of them showed the fluke because they dived deep. Thank you all for joining

|15-09-2019| A group of Sperm whales shallow diving
On this day we were lucky to see a pod of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). The animals didn't show the flukes as they didn't dive deep, but while socializing, some of them showed a part of the tail. Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that our biologist Maria took during the expedition. #naturalistpt #atlanticnaturalist #azoresnaturalist #azores #whalewatchingazores #birdwatching #dolphingwatching #dolphinazores #faialtour #faialwhal

|24-09-2019| 4 species of cetaceans after a windy week
After a week of bad weather conditions, finally, we went out to the ocean. The Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were far away towards the South of Pico island. But luckily, there were Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) and Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) in the way. After the Sperm whales, a pod of Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) was on our way back. Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that

|12-09-2019| Sperm whales with a newborn and Atlantic Spotted dolphins in the North
This morning we went towards the North of Faial to see a group of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). Some animals were shallow diving. The group was composed by adult females, one of them with a very small calf, and at least one juvenile. In the area, there was a small pod of less than 10 Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). The pod was composed mainly by juvenils and calves: it was a nursery group. Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share th

|10-09-2019| Sperm whales and Common dolphins
It was a great morning with flat sea and a very large pod of spermwhales south of Pico ISland. Our dear spotter Carlos, from São Mateus found the animals giving directions to our boat. Today we had Dr. Gonçalo Graça and Dr. Zé Nuno as second and first skipper, Clara Rodrigues the MSc student recording delphinid behaviour and sounds and the Dr. Nuno Vasco Rodrigues, a National Geographic colaborator photographer from Fundo Azul for a what had to be a special expedition. |09-09-2019| Sperm whales North and South of the islands
In this day we went to see Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) in the North during the morning and in the South during the afternoon. The whales were shallow diving and we saw few flukes. Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) and Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) were also around and we could enjoy them. Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that our biologist Maria took during the expedition. SPERM WHALES STRIPED DOLPHINS

|07-09-2019 pm| Amazing Sperm whales behavior in the South of Pico island
In the afternoon, the group of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) that we had seen in the morning was still in the South of the island of Pico. But the behavior was much differnt. We had three breathtaking moments with these marine mammals: The first was when 3 juvenile females approached until less than 5 meters from our boat while socializing. The second was when a Sperm whale started tail slapping several times. The third was when the same Sperm whale breached 3 times i
