|ENG| Windy morning today! Our skipper talked to our spotter and he had already seen some sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus)! So we did a small briefing explaining the wonders of the Azores and then, after equipped the team of Naturalists, we went off to our adventure. On our way to the sperm whales, another boat, that was nearby, saw a sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis)! As soon as we heard sei whale on the radio we changed our course and went to see the baleen whale. When

|27082020| Suckling behaviour of a sperm whale
|ENG| We had a couple of days with bad weather, but today the wind drop and we could do a morning expedition :) Spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) everywhere we look and everywhere we go! On our way to find the sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus), we passed by a big group of spotted dolphins but we didn't stay for long so we wouldn't miss the sperm whales! We arrive in time to see our first sperm whale at the surface for almost 10 minutes and then it deep dove, maybe to

|23082020pm| Rivalry between resident and transient animals
|ENG| The first species that we saw this afternoon was the bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). They are big, almost 4 meters length, and more robust dolphins. We think they have a strong personality ;) After we saw a small group of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). Comparing to the bottlenose dolphins they are half their size and normally approach the boat more times. We didn't saw this species for quite a while so it was good to see them again :) Then we went to loo

|23082020am| Dolphin fever
|ENG| A morning full of spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis)! This morning was a smooth sea, which means good conditions to spot some wildlife! Before finding our first group of spotted dolphins we saw a shark not very far away from our boat! First, we saw the tip of its dorsal fin, and then we could see its silhouette as it got closer to the boat. Unfortunately, we couldn't confirm which species was, but in the Azores it is possible to see the blue shark (Prionace glauca),

|ENG| wow! What a morning! We had a bit of wind this morning but nothing that would stop us to find animals! Today we went to the north of #Faialisland where our spotter had seen some sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). On our way to the area where the sperm whales were, we saw a big group of spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis). The group of dolphins was feeding together with the cory's shearwater (Calonectris borealis). After seeing the spotted dolphins we approached on

|21082020pm| Feeding frenzy
|ENG| Wavy afternoon between #Picoisland and #SãoJorgeisland. An incredible afternoon that we had! On our way to find some whales, our skipper spotted a turtle, and when we got close we realize it was a green turtle (Chelonia mydas)! It is a rare to species observe in the Azores, so we got really lucky! In the Azores, this species is normally found in shallow coastal areas where algae are more abundant. After cruising some waves, the first animal that we see is a big sei whal

|21082020am| Close encounter with pilot whales
|ENG| The first day that we could go out after a few days of bad weather! So good it feels to be in the water again :) After our spotter spotted some animals, we equipped our team and went to look for them! On the south of #Picoisland we saw a big group of pilot whales (Globicephala sp.). The group was really calm, approaching the boat a few times. It is not a species that we see often in our expeditions and especially so close as today! Thank you for joining us! Enjoy and sh

|14082020| Jackpot!
|ENG| Another lucky day! Today we went to the north of #Faialisland. On our way to see the sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) first, we encounter a group of striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), but since our spotter was having some trouble to track the sperm whales, we didn't stop to have a better look. So we kept our way. Although just a few meters of the sperm whales area, we found at least 2 beaked whales. The sighting was very brief due to the common behaviour of

|ENG| This day couldn't have gone better! Early morning, no wind and the sun was shining :) Our experienced spotter told us that he was seeing some whales on the south of #PicoIsland, so we equipped the team of Naturalists and went off to a new adventure. In our first stop, we spotted an incredible sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis)! We stayed with the whale for quite a while and sometimes the whale appeared really close to the boat. It was a fantastic sighting, seeing such a

|ENG| Today the weather and sea conditions were perfect! No wind, really calm sea and bright sun! In the morning we talked to the spotter on the north of #Faialisland and he said he already had seen some sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). So after receiving this information we went to pick the team of Naturalists that were waiting in Madalena, #Picoisland. With the Naturalists on board, we went to look for the sperm whales! Before arriving to the sperm whales area, we saw
