|18062021| Sperm whale and Pico island postcard | Postal de Cachalote e Ilha do Pico

Today was another typical day in the Azores!

We start our morning expedition by seeing a group of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) that were quite active at the surface and doing some bow-riding.

On this day we also were super lucky and we saw so many sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus)! The group was on the south of Faial island and most of the members were heading to Pico island.

All of them deep-dive so it was perfect to collect photographs from the tails and it will be extremely helpful because it will help us understand better the groups and relations between the sperm whales.

One of the sperm whales dove and we got the perfect ground on the photo. Looks like a postcard!

Hoje foi mais um dia tipico nos Açores!

Começámos a nossa manhã a ver um grupo de golfinhos comuns (Delphinus delphis) que estavam bastante activos à superficíe e a navegarem à proa.

Neste dia fomos bastante sortudos e conseguimos ver vários cachalotes (Physeter macrocephalus)! O grupo estava no sul da ilha do Faial e um parte dos membros do grupos estavam a ir em direção à ilha do Pico.

Todos os cachalotes que vimos, mergulharam, sendo possível recolher fotografias das caudas de todos os animais! Estas fotografias irão ajudar-nos a perceber melhor os grupos e as relações entre indivíduos.

Um dos cachalotes mergulhou e conseguimos a fotografia perfeita, a cauda de um cachalote e a ilha do Pico por trás. Um autêntico postal!
