|12062021am| Sperm whale reunion | Reunião de Cachalotes nos Açores

Today was a perfect day for a sea expedition!

The sun was shining and the sea was completely flat.

We start the morning watching a couple of sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) resting at the surface and then deep diving.

One of the sperm whales that were doing some shallow dives, did an unexpected behavior.

The sperm whale at one point tourn around with the head direct to us and approached the boats, maybe it was curiosity?

After we saw a group of almost 20 sperm whales, all together stoped at the surface! It was a rare moment to observe!

We don't know for sure what they were doing, they could be resting or maybe protecting their young.

There was also a group of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) around the sperm whales.

It was a day full of emotions!

Hoje as condições estavam perfeitas para realizar a expedição de mar!

Tinhamos sol e o mar estava completamente calmo.

Começámos a nossa expedição a observar alguns cachalotes (Physeter macrocephalus) a descansarem e a fazerem os seus mergulhos profundos.

Também observámos dois cachalotes que estavam apenas a fazer mergulhos de curta duração. De repente, um dos cachalotes muda a sua posição, vira a sua cabeça em direcção aos barcos e aproxima-se! Foi um momento pouco incomum e com muita emoção! Talvez este cachalote estava a demonstrar alguma curiosidade para com o nosso barco.

Um momento de que ninguém estava à espera! Avistámos um grupo de 20 cachalotes super coeso, com indivíduos em várias direções e algumas crias no meio.

No meio deste grupo havia também um grupo de golfinhos roazes (Tursiops truncatus).
