|07-09-2019 am| Sperm whales and Risso's dolphins in the South of Pico
In this morning we went out after a pod of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) that the lookouts had found. Before we reached the area, Risso's dolphins (Grampus griseus) appeared. It was a pod around 15 animals. We stopped and watched them while they dived. Their behavior was to dive for 5 minutes and stay at the surface for 2-3 minutes.
Afterwards, we moved towards the group of Sperm whales, who were shallow diving. Luckily we could see two flukes.
Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that our biologist Maria took during the expedition.
