|21-08-2019| Short-finned Pilot whales and Atlantic-spotted dolphins

With unstable weather conditions in the Azores, the lookouts made once again all their efforts to find some cetaceans, finding a pod of Atlantic-spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) between the white caps and waves off Capelinhos volcano.

With guaranteed safety, provided by our skipper Marco, we could reach the area on time to see a sub-group of the bigger group. After loosing and re-finding the dolphins 5 times, we received news that there was a pod of Short-finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), so we moved towards them. We were able to see very well the group, about 8-10 animals, and to take some pictures that will be useful for photo identification.

Thank you very much for your preference, good vibes and bravery. Enjoy the pictures that our biologist Maria managed to take of the Pilot whales.
