|12-08-2019| Sperm whales and dolphins in the Azores whale watching

In this day we were lucky to track a pod of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) from the South of Faial, towards the South of Pico. Additionally a group of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) was also sighted in one of the trips. Both species had juveniles on their pods, an indication of a good health status. Not only cetaceans but also Cory's shearwaters (Calonecris borealis) were quite active foraging for fish. The last trip ended watching sperm whales and a calf diving off Lages do Pico at 20:00, to finish with a beautiful sunset behind Faial island.

Thank you for joining our team in the expeditions of this day. Enjoy the pictures that our biologists took.
