|27072020| Active bottlenose dolphins

Today we had almost no wind, so we had almost a flat sea!

We saw a small group of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). In the beginning, they approached the boat but then they kept their "social distance" rule from humans. After a while, they start to be more active, they performed some jumps and it was also possible to see some sexual behaviour (e.g. chasing each other and rubbing their bellies).

Then we left the group of dolphins and went to look for the biggest toothed whale, the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus)!

We saw at least two different animals, we know for sure because when they deep dove to find their favorite food, the squid, we got to see their tails.

On our way back we found again the group of bottlenose dolphins that we saw earlier!

Na expedição de hoje praticamente não tivemos vento!

Avistámos um grupo pequeno de golfinhos roazes (Tursiops truncatus). No início eles aproximaram-se do barco mas depois mantiveram a regra da "distância social" dos humanos. Mas entretanto começaram a ficar mais ativos, fizeram saltos e foi também possível observer algum comportamento secual (ex. perseguição e esfregar as barrigas uns nos outros).

Deixámos este grupo de golfinhos e fomos à procura da maior baleia de dentes, que é o cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus)!

Vimos pelo menos dois animais diferentes e temos a certeza que eram dois, porque quando fizeram o seu mergulho para encontrarem o seu alimento preferido, as lulas, conseguimos ver as suas caudas.

No nosso regresso conseguimos avistar novamente o grupo de golfinhos roazes.
