wow! What a morning!


We had a bit of wind this morning but nothing that would stop us to find animals!


Today we went to the north of #Faialisland where our spotter had seen some sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). On our way to the area where the sperm whales were, we saw a big group of spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis).

The group of dolphins was feeding together with the cory's shearwater (Calonectris borealis).


After seeing the spotted dolphins we approached one sperm whale that had just surfaced. Some dolphins came with us to see the sperm whale!

The sperm whale was calm at the surface, recovering from the dive that just did! They will stay underwater, normally, 40 minutes, however, they can stay until 2 hours.

Then when the whale had rest enough it deep dove! Let's see if we already have this tail in our catalogue!


The spotter let us know that was a sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis) nearby, so we went to see it! In the beginning, the whale was moving a bit fast but then the whale slows it down and stayed by our side. Since the water visibility was amazing we could see the entire body of the whale! Such an incredible moment!


Just a few minutes after we see another sei whale and then another one! It was another adult and a juvenile.


The juvenile was extremely curious about the boat, approaching the boat multiple times! It came so so close! These memories will always stay with us!

Uau! Que manhã fantástica!


Tivemos algum vento esta manhã mas nada que impedisse que encontrarmos os animais!


Hoje fomos até ao norte da #ilhadoFaial onde o vigia tinha avistado um grupo de cachalotes (Physeter macrocephalus). Já a caminho da área onde estavam os cachalotes, encontrámos um grupo de golfinhos pintados (Stenella frontalis). O grupo estava em alimentação juntamente com vários cagarros (Calonectris borealis).


Depois de vermos os golfinhos pintados, vimos um cachalote que tinha acabado de chegar à superfície. Alguns dos golfinhos pintados vieram connosco ver o cachalote!

O cachalote estava bastante calmo, a recuperar do mergulho que acabou de fazer! Os mergulhos que eles fazem, em média, têm uma duração de 40 minutos, mas podem ficar até 2 horas.

Depois de ter descansado tudo aquilo que precisava, mergulhou! Vamos ver se a cauda deste cachalote já está no nosso catálogo :)


O vigia avisou-nos que havia uma baleia sardinheira (Balaenoptera borealis) perto da nossa localização. No início a baleia esta a mover-se muito rápido, mas depois acalmou e deixou-se estar ao nosso lado. A visibilidade da água estava incrível por isso conseguimos ver o corpo todo! Que momento incrível!


Após alguns minutos avistámos mais duas baleias sardinheiras! Era outro adulto e um juvenil.


O juvenil estava extramamente curioso com o barco, aproximando-se várias vezes!

Ele chegou tão perto! Creio que ninguém vai esquecer este momento!
