This afternoon the sea looked like a mirror! There was no wind at all and it was hot as a summer day.

We start the expedition by seeing a sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) resting at the surface, getting all the air that it will need for its deep dive. After the 10/12 minutes of resting, the sperm whale deep dove and we got to see its tail.

One more photo for us to add to our catalogue!

After the sperm whale, we saw a group of Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus) that were super calm at the surface and traveling at a low speed and they even approached the boat sometimes, which is not a common behaviour of this species.

They got so close that even at one point we could see one of the calves drinking milk from its mother! It was a fantastic moment!

Due to the warm dar and sea conditions, we saw so many loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta)! We manage to catch two, one of them we tagged it and release it, the other, which was smaller, we brought to land to give to our partners COSTA. who are trying to gather information about the small sea turtles that are seen in the Azores.

We ended the trip with another sperm whale deep diving.

Esta tarde o mar parecia um espelho, nem uma brisa de vento corria!

Um autêntico dia de Verão.

Começámos a expedição a observar um cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus), que estava a descansar à superficíe, recuperando o ar que necessita para o próximo mergulho. Após 10/12 minutos de descanso, o cachalote mergulho e vimos a sua cauda.

Mais uma cauda para adicionarmos ao nosso catálogo!

Conseguimos também avistar um grupo de golfinhos de risso (Grampus griseus) que estavam bastante calmos e a navegar a uma baixa velocidade e até membros do grupo aproximaram-se do nosso barco várias vezes, o que não é comum desta espécie.

Chegaram tão perto que até conseguimos observar uma das crias a beber leita da sua mãe! Foi um momento incrível!

Por estar tão calor e boas condições de mar, vimos várias tartarugas comuns (Caretta caretta)! Conseguimos apanhar duas, numa colocámos as tags e voltámos a libertá-la, a outra veio connosco para terra para dar aos nossos parceiros do projecto COSTA, que está a recolher informação sobre as tartaruhas mais pequenas que são avistadas nos Açores.

Terminámos a nossa saída com mais um cachalote a fazer um mergulho profundo e a mostrar a sua cauda.
