Today it was a windy day!

Today we went to the north of #Faialisland to look for sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) :)

On our way to the sperm whales that the spotter was seeing we saw 2 blows!

We got closer to the area where we saw the blows, at first we saw a sperm whale with more or less 8 meters long (they can measure 15 to 18 meters) and after a few minutes a baby sperm whale appears! The baby sperm whales normally are with their mom or they can also stay with their aunties. The baby can nurse from both.

After being some minutes at the surface the adult sperm whale deep dove and the baby also dove, but only stayed underwater for a little while because it still doesn't have the capacity to dive so deep.

Hoje foi um dia bastante ventoso!

A expedição de hoje foi no norte da #ilhadoFaial onde avistámos os cachalotes (Physeter macrocephalus) :)

Antes de chegarmos à área em que o vigia tinha avistado os cachalotes conseguimos ver dois sopros!

Chegámos mais perto da área onde vimos os sopros e primeiramente vimos um cachalote com mais ou menos 8 metros de comprimento (podem medir entre 15 a 18 metros) e depois de alguns minutos uma cria de cachalote aparece! As crias normalmente estão com as suas mães ou podem estar com as suas "tias" (outras fêmeas que ficam responsáveis pela cria).

Depois de estarem alguns minutos à superficíe o cachalote adulto mergulhou e a cria também, mas como ainda não têm capacidade para ficar muito tempo debaixo de água, apareceu pouco depois à superficíe.
