|31-08-2019 am| Sperm whales, dolphins and squid

This morning we went towards the North of Pico in order to find a group of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). The whales were diving, showing their flukes, resting and some of them socializing. We also saw Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) and Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis).

Suddenly, we saw a Cory's shearwater (Calonectris borealis) trying to eat something but without success. We approached and cought that piece of food to discover that it was a piece of squid, probably brought to the surface by a Sperm whale. We collected that sample and kept it.

Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that our biologist Maria took during the expedition
