In today's morning expedition, we went all the way to Capelinhos Vulcano!

Perfect background for our sightings.

Our first sighting was a group of sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus).

We got to see around 6 animals, all of them deep-dive so we got photographs of their tails! We even got to see three sperm whales deep diving at the same time.

It will be perfect to add more information to our catalogue.

When we were waiting for some sperm whales to come up to the surface we saw a loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) and a shark. The sighting of the shark was really fast so we were not sure of the species, but we believe it was a blue shark (Prionace glauca), one of the most common species of shark in the Azores.

After we went to look for some dolphins.

We saw a small group of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), however, we didn't stay long because they were not very interested in us.

We also saw a group of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). They were much more playful, approaching the boat multiple times.

It was a great morning!

Na expedição de hoje fomos até à zona do Vulcão dos Capelinhos!

A paisagem perfeita para ter durante os nossos avistamentos.

O nosso primeiro avistamento foi um grupo de cachalotes (Physeter macrocephalus).

Conseguimos ver pelo menos 6 animais e todos os eles mergulharam, o que significa que conseguimos fotografias das suas barbatanas caudais. Até conseguimos ver três cachalotes a mergulhar ao mesmo tempo!

Já temos nova informação para adicionar ao nosso catálogo!

Enquanto esperávamos por alguns cachalotes subirem à superficíe, avistámos uma tartaruga comum (Caretta caretta) e um tubarão. Não conseguimos ter a certeza da espécie, pois o avistamento foi muito breve, mas a equipa acha que era um tubarão azul (Prionace glauca), uma das espécies mais comuns de tubarões nos Açores.

Nesta manhã também conseguimos avistar duas espécies de golfinhos.

Avistámos um grupo de golfinhos roazes (Tursiops truncatus), que não estavam muito interessados na nossa embarcação, por isso o avistamento foi bastante curto.

E vimos um grupo de golfinhos comuns (Delphinus delphis). Estavam bastante ativos e aproximaram-se do barco várias vezes.
