Naturalist - Science & Tourism is a portuguese company formed by biologists and filed researchers working on Land and Marine environments for more than 10 years, We combine nature and cultural tours with research data collection. Naturalist is a start-up from the Universirty of Lisbon.

The Peniche Naturalist team offers services and tours in the Peniche area, particularly birdwatching tours.

About Peniche

Peniche is located at 1h30 hours by car from Lisbon, a maritime peninsula with the nearby small peninsula of Baleal, long sandy beaches and a strong fishing culture and world top surf wave. Adorning Peniche is the archipelago of Berlengas (with Berlenga Grande, Estela and Farilhões islands).

How to get to Peniche - and move around

There are many direct flights to Lisbon from major European cities, East Coast of the USA, Asia, South America and Africa. From Lisbon to Peniche it is recommended to rent a car, the trip on the A8 highway takes about 1h30. Taking into account the geography of Peniche, it is recommended to use a versatile car to move between the long sandy beaches, go to restaurants, watch a sunset or enjoy the nightlife in the nearby Bay of Baleal.

Weather

The average air temperature ranges between 10°C and 25°C.

People

The majority of Peniche people now work in tourism or fishing related activities. In general they are accessible with plenty knowledge. English might not be easily spoken by elder people, however it is well spoken along the younger locals.

Food

The capital of fresh fish and north Atlantic seafood. White Wine "Alvarinho".

Best time to visit Peniche

Spring and Summer. However, the milder weather is expected between March and November, with the surf community now operating year round. Northwest wind and some fog are typical of cities blessed by the ocean. Nearby locations of Óbidos and Caldas da Rainha are worth a visit.

Join our ornithologist birding through amazing nature spots around the Peniche area. Marine species, fresh water and coastal species, passeriformes, migrating birds and winterers all can be seen in the area. A list of possible species is given below.
