Great expedition today! Thanks to you, we managed to collect data for our monitoring programs, including sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and common dolphins (Delphinus delphis).

This afternoon, the sea was perfect for the tour, however, the clouds were interfering a bit with the visibility.

One of the spotters found a group of sperm whales on the north of Pico, so we went straight there!

At first, we saw a group with at least 5 adult sperm whales and one calf.

We could see the tails of all the females and one juvenile male stayed behind at the surface.

We also had a good sighting with a group of energetic common dolphins, they were socializing a lot and it was even possible to observe some mating behaviors.

Grande expedição hoje! Graças a vós conseguimos recolher dados para os nossos programas de monitorização ambiental, incluindo cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus) e golfinhos comuns (Delphinus delphis).

Esta tarde, o mar estava perfeito para o passeio, contudo, as nuvens estavam a interferir um pouco com a visibilidade.

Um dos vigias encontrou um grupo de cachalotes no norte do Pico, por isso fomos directamente para lá!

No início, vimos um grupo com pelo menos 5 cachalotes adultos e uma cria.

Conseguimos ver as caudas de todas as fêmeas e um macho juvenil ficou para trás à superfície.

Também tivemos um bom avistamento com um grupo de golfinhos comuns energéticos, estavam a socializar bastante e foi até possível observar alguns comportamentos de acasalamento.
