|02-09-2019 pm| Short-finned pilot whales and dolphins in the South

Updated: Sep 30, 2019

Swimming with dolphins activities are triki, you need to find the right species of dolphins in the right sea conditions. This afternoon we went towards South of Pico island as there was a big group of dolphins. Once we arrived, we realized that they were Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), the fastest dolphis in the Azores. This species is not good to swim with, so we only watched them.

As no more species of dolphins were there, we continued on whale watching. Luckily, a pod of about 40 Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) was there too. This encounter was almost magic, the animals were corssing very close to us.

Thank you all for joining our team. You can enjoy and share the pictures that our biologist Maria took during the expedition.
