Great expedition today! Thanks to you we managed to collect data for our monitoring programs, including sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and sei whale (Balaenoptera borealis).
Today we had whales from the two main sub-order.
The sei whale belongs to the mysticeti sub-order, which has a double blowhole and baleen plates. Normally, the species of this sub-order tend to be less social, occurring in small groups or they can also be found alone.
The sperm whale belongs to the odontoceti sub-order, which are recognized by their single blowhole, teeth and echolocation.

Grande expedição hoje! Graças a vós conseguimos recolher dados para os nossos programas de monitorização ambiental, incluindo cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus) e baleia sardinheira (Balaenoptera borealis).
Hoje avistámos duas espécies que pertencem a sub-ordens diferentes!
O cachalote pertence à sub-ordem odontocetos, sendo reconhecidos pelo seu único espiráculo, por terem dentes e por fazerem ecolocalização.
A baleia sardinheira já pertence à sub-ordem misticetos, que são distinguidos pelo seu espiráculo duplo e por terem barbas em vez de dentes. Normalmente, as espécies desta sub-ordem são menos sociais, formando pequenos grupos ou podendo ser encontrados sozinhos.
